Study in the US

It is a common myth that the United States is unreachable for many students. Yes, it is further to travel, especially from Cyprus and  the tuition costs may seem high, but there are universities with funding opportunities for students with good grades and impressive extra curricular activities and achievements.  The United States is home to more international students than any other country in the world; the figure is currently at 1 million international students,  and it is expected to continue to grow.

Students can study anything in the United States; the options are endless.   A unique feature of US admission is that students do not need to know exactly what they want to study.  Some universities will allow students to select ‘undeclared’ major at the time of application so that they can attend the university and explore the many options during their first 2 years.   This is a major attraction of a US undergraduate education.

Universities can also be called ‘college’, which does not imply something lesser, but rather an institution that takes on a more liberal arts approach.   A two-year college, or ‘junior’ or ‘community college’ however is different as these offer mostly a two year Associate degree.    A liberal arts approach  means students take a variety of classes from different departments that offers them a more holistic approach to their studies,  and to their future career.  Students at US universities, and especially at liberal arts colleges, will improve their soft skills – their communication skills, their ability to think critically and blend different disciplines to solve problems.

Many students from Cyprus have gained admission to U.S. universities in almost every state of the United States and each student has had very positive experiences.  It is not only the top-notch education offered in the U.S. but a rich cultural experience and the diverse student population at many American Universities offers a unique opportunity to interact with students from all over the world, learning from different cultural and educational backgrounds.

With 4,500 accredited universities and colleges in the United States, there is a place for everyone.  There are varying degrees of difficulty and different acceptance rates at universities.  Students should look at a range of universities and not just those they have heard of!  The most important factor is that you do well during your universities years and keep up a high GPA!
